When the idea of a chef comes to mind, most people picture someone who is moving around, getting things done. Maybe they’re talking with their sous chef about whether a particular ingredient is needed or tasting one of the many pots simmering on the stove.

Trying to write your chef bio? Here we give you the ingredients for a great bio in the following chef bio example (names have been changed for privacy):

Chef Julio Gomez has always loved the culinary arts, a talent he inherited from his family, who already succeeded in the restaurant business. While Chef Julio initially went to college for business, he quickly decided that he had to pursue what he was naturally gifted at. He knew the work would be hard, but he felt he couldn’t lose — he knew his daughter Shelly, his “North Star,” was depending on him.

In the first paragraph, we describe this chef’s love for the culinary arts, his education, and the decision he made to pursue this career and the fact that his daughter depended on him. The words are well put together; nothing is wasted. All words move you to the next task.

So armed with determination and passion, he went on and enrolled at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. After Chef Julio graduated with a degree in culinary arts, his life was about to change forever. He met his mentor, Chef Greg Smith of Koko Restaurant. He credits Chef Greg for the guidance he provided that had everything to do with making him the success he is today.

The second paragraph in this chef bio example goes from his graduation to introducing his mentor and how his mentor gave him the guidance he needed for his current success.

Chef Julio has worked at many fine restaurants, including Spago and Eleven Madison Park. He has also made several media appearances as an expert chef, including Michael Colameco’s “Real Food” and WNBC New York.

Then in the third paragraph, you see the jump to the media appearances; this is creating exactly what you want. Movement with an honest glimpse of the subject’s personality.

Always excited about the goodness of food, both in nutrients and taste, Chef Julio volunteers his time cooking dinner at local food banks. He also supports the National MS Society.

In this chef bio example, this last paragraph discusses what he does outside his work, which confirms his movement in life and how much he enjoys his career choice.
